Top Support Tips

Here are some things that we've noticed. We think this will cut down our support calls by a good 20 percent. Be prepared with the solution in hand!

Wait 15 to 30 Seconds Before Hitting Process

If you are a Unitech scanner user... at that stage where you are sending the data file FROM the scanner over to the PC - we recommend waiting 15-30 seconds after the scanner says it is complete, before pressing the "Process" button on the Inventory Assistant screen. This allows the PC more time to finish writing the inventory, requisition, and purchasing result files on the PC.

Advance The Period Immediately After Running Setup!

During the month end process (get it here) one of the steps right after running inventory setup is advancing the period. This needs to be done ASAP, after inventory setup.

Do Not Purge The Scanner Until You've Verified the Data in the Preliminary Inventory Extension Report

If you have purged your data from the scanner and for some reason that data did not get into Eclipse, your inventory data is lost. Please verify it is there first. The easy way to do this is visit the INVENTORY > ENTER/CHANGE INVENTORY, and then select preliminary inventory extension report. If you see some of the counts you entered into the scanner - on the screen there, for that outlet... you should be safe to purge.

Do Not Make Changes To The Fiscal Calendar.... Unless....

It was meant to be "set and forget"; however, if you need to change it, do not change it earlier than 1 period prior to the date being changed, plus whatever is left in the present period you are in. If you change the dates for the start and end of a period earlier than this, it will definitely cause a support call, and the first thing we do when you call is ask you to change it back. This is the only way out... and will ruin transactions you have done SINCE the fiscal calendar change was made. Do you best to abide by the above rule, and your transactions and date control will be far better off.

If You Have Never Run Auto-Close POs...

Do it right before a long weekend when few or no users are in the system. It takes up resources, and will often take a long time. Launch the autoclose process right before you leave for the day, after most or all users have logged out.
